PROJECT SUMMARIES

Solid Waste

AUTOMATED RESIDENTIAL TRUCK

13-SW-001

Description:

The proposed project will consist of the purchase of a new Automated residential garbage truck. At the time of replacement in 2020, the truck will be 7 years old and at the point of replacement. This project will be an ongoing truck replacement schedule for the two automated collection trucks the city has. To maintain reliable equipment, the City schedules replacement of vehicles based on usage and life expectancy. This will ensure that vehicles are getting replaced at the correct timing intervals to ensure continued service delivery. Maintenance costs could increase on these types of trucks versus the traditional rear load due to more mechanics and moving parts.

CONTAINER REPLACEMENT

13-SW-002

Description:

The proposed project is an on going project consisting of the replacement of rear load containers and roll-off collection boxes.

Justification:

Due to activity and wear, and tear, these containers reach a point of when it is no longer to economically make repairs to them and replacement is the only option.

Budget Impact:

Container maintenance will decrease with newer containers.

COMMERCIAL PACKER TRUCK REPLACEMEN

Description:

The proposed project would replace the 2005 unit currently being used on the commercial pick up route.

Justification:

At the time of replacement, the current truck would be 11 years old.

Budget Impact:

Maintenance costs should be lower with a newer vehicle.

Loader Tire Replacement

21-SW-001

Description:

The proposed project would purchase new tires on the wheel loader that is used to load transfer trailers. These tires are foam filled to prevent flats.

Justification:

The current tires are worn out.

Budget Impact:

SEMI TRACTOR

23-SW-001

Description:

The proposed project would consist of the purchase of a new semi tractor to haul solid waste to the landfill.

Justification:

This purchase will replace the 2010 International truck that is currently being used. At the time of replacement, the current vehicle will be 12 years old. The City will retain the current vehicle for use as a spare unit.

Budget Impact:

1/2 ton Pick Up

23-SW-002

Description:

The proposed project would purchase a new 1/2 ton pick up with a lift tailgate. This truck would be used by the Solid Waste Supervisor. The current Supervisor's truck will be transferred tot the yard truck and replace a 2008 F-150 that will be 15 years old at the time of replacement.

Justification:

Remove a 15 year old truck form service.

Budget Impact:

Recycling Cart Decal Replacement

23-SW-003

Description:

The proposed project would replace the recycling decals on the residential recycling containers. There are approximately 4,700 containers in use.

Justification:

The current informational decals are starting to fade and the information could be updated based on current practices.
