PROJECT SUMMARIES

Parks and Recreation

REPLACE 6' MOWER

14-PARK-001

Description:

The proposed project will replace the city's current 6' rotary mower with a new piece of equipment.

Justification:

The project will replace the current mower based on the mower replacement schedule.

Budget Impact:

The project should reduce maintenance costs.

ADA PORTABLE TOILETS

14-PARK-002

Description:

The proposed project will purchase compatible ADA for certain parks in the city system.

Justification:

The proposed project is required to be in compliance with the current ADA law and regulations.

Budget Impact:

There will be minimal impact on the budget as this project is replacing existing toilets with new ones.

TENNIS COURT RENOVATION PROJECTS

15-PARK-001

Description:

The proposed project will renovate the tennis courts located at Fair View and River View Parks.

The courts are Riverview Park are in need of crack filling and repainting. This project will be completed in FY16.

The Fairview Tennis Courts are in need of overlay or replacement. This project will be completed in FY22.

Justification:

The current court surface has deteriorated to a point where large cracks exist, providing a source for water and freeze/thaw conditions to damage the surface. Half of the project will be reimbursed to the City by the Spencer Community School District. Resurfacing the courts will reduce potential injuries due to surface conditions and provide quality facilities. Maintenance costs should be lower.

Budget Impact:

REPLACE 11' MOWER

15-PARK-002

Description:

The proposed project will replace the current 11' mower with a new piece of equipment.

Justification:

The replacement of the mower is based on the mower replacement schedule.

Budget Impact:

The project should lower maintenance costs versus current equipment.

PARK IDENTIFICATION SIGNS

18-PARK-004

Description:

The proposed project will replace the current park identification signs with new, more durable signs.

Justification:

The current signs are constructed of wood and have deteriorated beyond repair and need replaced.

Budget Impact:

New signs will reduce future maintenance costs.

4TH AVE SW TRAIL

19-PARK-003

Description:

The proposed project will develop and construct a trail adjacent to 4th Ave SW from 13th Street SW to 25th Street SW.

Justification:

The project would provide a multi-use trail for the SW sector of Spencer. It will provide a safe way to get to 11th Street SW and connect to the rest of the City's trail system.

Budget Impact:

Maintenance costs will increase due to the completion of this project.

MISC. TRAIL REPAIRS

19-PARK-006

Description:

The proposed project would provide funds for the repair of trail deficiencies.

Justification:

Due to weather and age, sections of the recreational trails will need small patches and repairs. Foregoing these repairs will cause safety concerns in the future as well as potential greater expense to replacement.
