Community Development Committee – this group oversees several community celebrations in Spencer including Flagfest Celebration, the city’s largest community event. Membership Committee – this committee is comprised of member businesses as well as the Chamber Board and works to develop innovative ways the Spencer Chamber can benefit its members and their businesses. Tourism Committee – the Spencer Chamber promotes tourism through the efforts of the Clay County Convention and Visitors Bureau, which was developed as the tourism arm of the Spencer Chamber.

Spencer U.S.A. Young Professionals The Spencer Young Professionals group was organized as an entity of the Spencer Chamber of Commerce. The Young Professionals group is a collection of young and middle aged professionals with an interest in promoting and supporting Spencer businesses. Some of the groups past projects include fundraising events, playground enhancement projects, Spencer Area Visioning Project, and professional socials and general community welcome and involvement.

Spencer Young Professionals MISSION -We positively promote Spencer as a progressive, distinguished community in which to live, raise a family, conduct business. Spencer continues to be a highly desirable community for people of all ages and walks of life to reside in, we will continue enhancing Spencer’s assets by providing an opportunity for networking and community involvements, thus contributing to the future growth and development of Spencer.

IOWA LAKES CORRIDOR DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION (A PERSPECTIVE ON REGIONAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT)

The Iowa Lakes Corridor Development Corporation was formed in 1992, under the name of Iowa Great Lakes Corridor of Opportunity, as a joint two county economic development commission to further the economic and business climate of Clay and Dickinson counties. The Corridor was formed as a non-profit organization able to offer joint services to participating public entities in areas of mutual advantage for the entire region. The Corridor is a separate entity for legal purposes but serves the economic development needs of each contributing local government, including Spencer.

“To foster, encourage, promote, aid or otherwise assist in the economic growth and development of the four-county region.”

The Corridor experienced several changes over the years to foster and promote a healthier, stronger, and expanded economic base in northwest Iowa. In November 2005, the Corridor announced the expansion of the region’s boundaries to include Emmet County. Additionally, by the spring of 2006, the Corridor announced that Buena Vista County would be joining forces with this multi-county economic development corporation.
