RAILROAD SERVICES According to the Iowa DOT Railroad Map, the City of Spencer and Clay County are served by the Canadian Pacific (CP) Railroad. The primary operator on this line is the Dakota, Minnesota, and Eastern R.R. Co. (DME). This railroad travels east and west through the central part of Spencer. This rail line transverses the northern part of Iowa entering the state at McGregor on the Mississippi River and continuing west until it intersects and joins with a primary north/south Union Pacific rail line at the City of Sheldon approximately 35 miles west of Spencer. FARM TO MARKET ROAD SYSTEM Farm to market roads in Iowa connect principal traffic generating uses to primary roads or other farm to market routes. These designated county routes are maintained by each county, but paid for by a special fund. The Farm to Market Road Fund consists of federal secondary road aid and 8 percent of Iowa’s road use taxes. Farm to Market roads within the City of Spencer consist of County Highways B24, M38, M44, and M50 and Iowa Highways 71 and 18.
