Description of Services:

The Northern Plains Regional Landfill is owned and operated by the City of Spencer. The landfill is located approximately 35 miles east of Spencer, near the city of Graettinger. The landfill serves the City of Spencer and unincorporated Clay County, Palo Alto County, Emmet County, Pocahontas County and the cities of Bode and Whittemore. The landfill was purchased by the City of Spencer in 2001 and operates as a proprietary fund, which means it receives no property tax dollars for its operation or maintenance.
