Departmental Highlights

The Street Division is responsible for over 97 miles of paved and gravel streets. In addition to street maintenance, the division is also responsible for street cleaning, snow removal, traffic control and street lighting. Employees of the Street Division also are responsible for maintaining the city's sewer lines, as well as assisting at the tree site. Capital projects for the fiscal year included repairs to the Highway 71 bridge monuments, various street maintenance projects and improvements, purchase of a new pickup truck with utility box, maintenance project at the maintenance facility, shared in the purchase of a snow plow with the Police Department, and the purchase of a new snow plow.

Budget Review

Total expenditures for the Street Division were $2,947,437.63 for FY 18, a decrease of $155,535.99 (-5.01%) compared to FY 17. The primary area of the decrease came form lower expenditures from the Street Improvement Reserve. Operational expenses for the division increased in FY 18 by $65,584.36 (+6.31%) over FY 17. Primary causes for the increase can be attributed to the salaries, contractual services and commodities categories. Most of these increases are due to a longer and wetter winter causing an increase in overtime supplies and rental trucking to perform snow removal functions. Employees of the division are members of IPERS and those expenses were flat compared to FY 17.

Overall the division expended 96.57% of its budget.
