DEPARTMENT INFORMATION
The Parks Department is responsible for the City's 16 parks, encompassing over 500 acres of land, 3 boulevard areas, 10 miles of recreational trails, 12 tennis courts, 11 athletic fields and 7 playgrounds. FY14 saw the expansion of the trail system with the completion of the Little Sioux Trail and Bridge project. This project added approximately an additional mile to the trail system. Departmental expenditures increased in FY17 by $65,385.86 (+14.14%) compared to FY16. Increases were seen in all areas of the operation. General causes of the increase include in increase in ground and building maintenance, Downtown Maintenance expenses, equipment repairs, and miscellaneous expenses. The Department expended 107.33% of its budget in FY17. There were no personnel changes in FY17 and no new full-time positions were added. The Department employs 2 full-time employees, including the Park Director and approximately 15 part-time seasonal employees to help maintain the Park system. There were no personnel changes in FY17.
