FUND INFORMATION

The Landfill owns and operates a Household Hazardous Waste Regional Collection center. The facility is located at the City of Spencer Transfer Station and opened for business in September 2012. The facility is available for residents to dispose of any household hazardous waste free of charge by appointment only. Mobile collection events are schedule in communities throughout the planning area throughout the year. Businesses may also bring hazardous waste to the Regional Collection Center, but must pay a fee to dispose of materials. This fund accounts for the business-like operations of the Regional Collection Center. Its primary source of revenue is from the disposal fees paid by businesses, reimbursement from the State of Iowa for disposal costs and transfers from the Landfill Operations Fund to make up any operating losses. Expenditures for FY17 decreased $3,106.24 (-7.49%) from FY16.

In FY17, the RCC operations required an operating grant from the Landfill to cover expenses. Revenue generated and cash reserves were not sufficient to cover all expenditures. The grant was less than budgeted.
