Grand Avenue Historic Commercial District This historic district consists of a three and a half block area abutting the east and west sides of Grand Avenue in downtown Spencer between 3 rd Street and 7 th Street (see map below). This stretch includes several buildings rebuilt after the great fire of 1931 in the Art Deco architectural style. Each of these buildings are used for retail or professional services along with upper story dwellings. Areas of historical significance are tied to architecture and community planning and development. The period of historical significance is primarily 1925-1949, which also coincides with the rebuilding of the downtown after the 1931 fire. Recognized architectural styles within the district include Art Deco, Classical Revival, and Romanesque.
