Spencer Family YMCA The Spencer Family YMCA is seen by many in the community as a major asset to the recreational services and amenities offered in Spencer. The YMCA’s primary focus is youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. As stated on the Y’s website, when you join the Spencer Family YMCA, “You join a community, not just a gym” . The YMCA offers everything from swimming, childcare services and programs, youth basketball, flag football, wrestling, dance classes, gymnastics, personal training, fitness equipment and classes, and other specialty classes. Leach Park Campground As camping continues to grow in popularity, the Spencer Parks & Recreation department continues to maintain and enhance the city’s only campground within the city limits. Located within East Leach Park, at 301 4 th St. SE, this 15-acre campground is situated along the Little Sioux River corridor with direct access to the trail system that meanders throughout the community. distance to the Spencer skate park, Leach Park playground, and aquatic center. This campground is also within walking distance to downtown Spencer via the city’s trail system. Amenities within this campground include 100 campsites with electrical service, designated tent camping areas, picnic tables and grills. The campground office is located within the Leach Park Shelter building which is a large fully enclosed shelter house with full kitchen facilities suitable for large parties, gatherings or other fun events.
