SPENCER NEIGHBORHOOD PARKS

Fairview Park Fairview Park is located at the intersection of E. 14 th St. & 5 th Ave. E. It shares the same property as Fairview Elementary School. This 6-acre park has large open spaces and many amenities for a neighborhood park. Those amenities include a basketball court, children's playground, hiking trail, tennis courts, and large expanses of greenspace. Waterway Park This neighborhood park is situated in a waterway between houses on the south side of Spencer. Located at 1501 Grand Plaza Drive, this 10-acre park offers a large green space area on the east side of the road, while offering basketball court, children's playground, picnic tables, and shelter house on the west side of Grand Plaza Drive. DeWolf Park This park is situated in southeast Spencer along Highway 18 east of Del's Garden Center. DeWolf Park offers Picnic Tables, large stand of timber, nature area & trail. This 10-acre park has large open greenspace for recreational activities. North School Park This 2-acre park, located at the corner of 1 st Avenue W. & West 11 th Street is a neighborhood park located in the city’s north central residential area. The amenities offered at this location include a basketball court, children's playground, picnic tables, shelter house, and tennis courts. Recently a section of abandoned railroad right-of-way through Spencer was converted to part of the city’s trail network. The first portion paved is a block-long segment on the west side of North School Park.

Storybook Park This small neighborhood park is located at the intersection of East Park Street and 10 th Avenue E., just south of Spencer High School. Storybook Park is connected to the city’s trail system and has a trail loop encompassing Pete’s Pond which is in the Park. Storybook Park derives its name from the book page displays that tell a story as you walk the trail around the pond. In 2016, the Spencer Parks & Recreation Board proposed in a joint project with the Library Board to clean and redesign the story boards that encompass Storybook Park to update and increase new interest in this park.
